Lamos (Cilicia)
Lamos (Λάμος; Latin Lamus ) is an ancient city in the part of the "Rough Cilicia " ( Kilikia Tracheia ) on the south coast of Asia Minor , 10 km northeast of Antioch on the Kragos , 16 km south-east of Selinus, which is also partly attributed to Isauria . The place was on a ridge north of Adanda, about 15 km east of Gazipaşa on the Turkish south coast.
The place is documented as a polis during the Roman Empire and was fortified with a city wall during the time of Emperor Gallienus (foundation inscription). In late antiquity and in Byzantine times it was a bishopric. In the 12th century it is attested under the name of Lamaws as part of the Kingdom of Lesser Armenia .
Almost 200 kilometers further east on the Mediterranean coast was another place called Lamos with the Lamos Kalesi castle near today's Limonlu . The river Lamos , which flows there , is generally regarded as the border with the Cilicia plains .
