Lana Gordon

Lana J. Gordon (* in New London , Connecticut ) is an American singer .

Life

Lana Gordon came to New York City in 1989 and studied dance at Alvin Ailey School on a scholarship. She was later asked if she would like to join the Wahl Ensemble under the direction of Sylvia Waters. Lana had been with the company for over 3½ years before joining another dance selection in 1992 called Donald Bird The / Group. In the summer of 1994 she worked as a solo artist in Japan for three years. In the same year she played Dionne on the European tour in the musical Hair, directed by James Rado.

In 1997 Lana made her Broadway debut in the original cast of the musical The Lion King , where she played in the ensemble and as an understudy for Nala and Shenzi. After 2½ years she left The Lion King and played the role of Soulsister in the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar . No more than 6 months after leaving The Lion King, Disney asked if she would not come back and offered her the role of Shenzi. Lana then played this role for more than two years. In 2003 she took on the role of Anita on the West Side Story European tour under the direction of Joey McKneely. She recently started her career as a solo artist in Europe. All this time she was in demand as a model for US advertising such as film and print. In 2009 Lana played the role of Kala in the Disney musical Tarzan in Hamburg at the Neue Flora Theater . She also sang the song Child in Time for the Alternative Hair Show . In 2014 Gordon took on the role of Velma Kelly in the musical Chicago at the Palladium Theater in Stuttgart .
