The Lancair IV is a single-engine, four-seater amateur construction - propeller aircraft produced by the American manufacturer Lancair International .

history

Development of the aircraft began in the early 1990s, after the prototype of the predecessor Lancair 235 flew for the first time in June 1984. Delivery of the Lancair IV kits began in 1990. On February 20, 1991, the model set a new world speed record for its class between San Francisco and Denver with an average of 583 km / h. In 1993 the price for a kit was quoted at US $ 45,900.

Around 100 Lancair IV and 225 IV-Ps had been sold by 2007.

construction

The airframe in sandwich construction has outer layers made of epoxy resin reinforced with carbon and aramid fibers ("Kevlar") with a sandwich core made of aramid ("Nomex"). The wings and fuselage were designed for high speed. At about half the engine power, the aircraft only needs about 10 liters of fuel per 100 km at a speed of about 300 km / h. The maximum speed is approx. 530 km / h. The maximum range is 4800 km.
