development and construction

The Legacy is a single-engine, two-seat, cantilever low- wing aircraft with a fixed or retractable nose wheel landing gear . The cockpit is covered by a full view hood.

The aircraft consists of vacuum formed composite components . The wings with a wingspan of 7.8 meters have a Cole GC10 profile at the roots and a Cole GC11 profile at the tips. They have a wing area of 7.6 square meters and have landing flaps . Various engines with outputs between 200 PS (147 kW) and 310 PS (228 kW) can be installed in the Legacy. The standard engine is a 310 hp (228 kW) Continental IO-550 , but smaller four-stroke engines such as the Lycoming IO-360 with 200 hp (147 kW) can also be used.

In 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016, four different Legacys won the Grand Champion Kit Built award at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh .

In May 2016, Lancair announced that it would discontinue production of new legacy kits as significant investments would be required to continue production. In 2017, the company sold the product to Mark and Conrad Huffstutler, who continue to manufacture it under the name Lancair International LLC in Uvalde , Texas .

The machines have fifteen percent more wing area, reinforcements on the leading edge of the wing and a keel fin to improve stability and flight characteristics at low speeds together with a modified tail unit . The aircraft were given the name Lancair Synergy and were delivered to Colombia as kits. The Synergy had its maiden flight in September 2010.
