The Lancair Barracuda is a two-seat aircraft kit made by the US manufacturer Lancair in Uvalde, Texas . It was presented at the EAA Airventure in July 2018 . The construction is a further development of the Lancair Legacy with a one-piece wing and larger wingspan.

development and construction

The Barracuda was developed for higher speeds and a simplified assembly of the kit compared to previous models. The aircraft is a single-engine, cantilevered low- wing aircraft with a two-seater cockpit under a transparent hood and partially or optionally fully retractable nose-wheel landing gear . It consists of composite materials such as GRP and carbon with a honeycomb structure made of aramids . His wings with a span of 28  ft (8.5  m ) have a doppeltkonische form and have Fowler flaps . The engine used is either a Lycoming IO-390 with 210  PS (154  kW ) or a Continental IO-550 -N with 310 PS (228 kW). The cockpit is 43.5  in (1.1  m ) wide and 44.5 in (1.1 m) high. The roll rate of the machine is 150 degrees per second.

The kit contains the aircraft itself, the engine, the propeller and the avionics , which consists of a glass cockpit with a Garmin G3X touch flight display, a GTN 750 GPS device, a radio and a multifunctional display. The purchase price of the kit includes a two-week training course by Lancair.

use

The first Barracuda built by a customer was exhibited at the Sun-'n-Fun-Festival in April 2019.
