Lycoming O-360 is the name of a piston aircraft engine family from the US manufacturer Lycoming . All engines in this series are air-cooled four-stroke boxer engines with four cylinders.
description
With a bore of 130.2 mm and a stroke of 111.1 mm, the displacement is 5917 cm³. The engine was introduced in 1955 and is still in production today. Different types have injection systems (identifier I ) and turbochargers (identifier T ). For use in helicopters there are special variants with the identifier H (formerly also V ). Other engines from the manufacturer with the same bore and stroke are the six-cylinder Lycoming O-540 and the eight-cylinder Lycoming O-720 . The O-360 is not to be confused with the Continental IO-360 , despite the similar name, this is a six-cylinder boxer with injection from another manufacturer ( Teledyne Continental Motors ).
variants
- O-360 / LO-360: Original engine that was approved on June 20, 1955. It is still in production today and has an output of between 108 kW and 157 kW, depending on the model. It is used in a number of well-known aircraft such as the Cessna 172 and the Piper PA-24 . It is also used in the Robinson R22 helicopter . Since 2001, Teledyne Continental has approved a conversion of the O-360 to gasoline injection, which also has a FADEC .
- VO-360: Variant for the helicopter use in Brantly B-2A with an output of 134 kW at 2900 min -1 . The engine was manufactured between 1959 and 1965.
- IO-360 / LIO 360: injection version with 119 kW at 2400 min -1 . Production started in 1960 and continues to this day. The engine is used in the Cessna 172 , the Maule M-5 and the Piper PA-34 , among others .
- IMO-360: enhanced version with 168 kW at 3400 min −1 only for use in target display drones . The engine was manufactured between 1959 and 1975 and was used in the Rheem SD-2 and the Radioplane RP-77 .
- IVO-360: Variant for the helicopter use with fuel injection in the Brantly B-2B and Schutzow model B having an output of 134 kW at 2900 min -1 . The engine was manufactured between 1963 and 1982.
- HIO-360 / LHIO-360: Variant with injection system for helicopter use in the Enstrom F-28 , Hughes 200 and Hughes 300CBi . The engine has an output of between 134 kW at 2700 min −1 and 153 kW at min −1 . It has been in production since 1963 and is still in production.
- HO-360: engine for use in helicopters with 134 kW at 2700 to 2900 min -1 , which was made 1967-1978. It was used in the Brantly B-2 and in the Hughes 269 .
- AIO-360: Art Airworthy version with fuel injection, the 149 kW at 2700 min -1 made. It was manufactured from 1967 to 1976 for the Spinks Model 11 and the Stephens Akro . In contrast to the engines that are not suitable for aerobatics, it has a fuel system that also works in an inverted position, as well as dry sump lubrication .
- TIO-360: Turbo-charged engine with injection system. The 149 to 157 kW engine at 2575 min −1 has been in production since 1967. It is used in the Lancair 360 and the Rutan 202 .
- TO-360 / LTO-360: turbocharged engine, the 134 to 157 kW at 2575 min -1 guaranteed. It has been manufactured since 1974 and is used in the Maule M-5 , the Piper PA-44 and the Rockwell Commander .
- AEIO-360: Aerobatic variant with petrol injection. The engine delivers 134 to 149 kW at 2700 min -1 and is manufactured since 1976th It was approved in 1974. In contrast to the engines that are not suitable for aerobatics, it has, in addition to wet sump lubrication, a fuel system that also works in an inverted position. In addition to the American Champion 8KCAB , the engine is also used in the Christen Eagle , Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 and the Pitts S-1 and Pitts S-2.
