Lance Dossor (born May 14, 1916 in Weston-super-Mare , Great Britain , † December 3, 2005 in Adelaide , Australia ) was a British-Australian pianist .

Life

Dossor studied piano with Herbert Freyer at the Royal College of Music in London from 1932 to 1937 and later switched to Emil von Sauer at the Musikfreunde Conservatory in Vienna .

In 1926 he won the special prize at the International Music Competition in Vienna . A year later he won fourth prize at the renowned Chopin Competition in Warsaw . In May 1938 he was again awarded fourth place in the "Eugène Ysaÿe" competition in Brussels .

After the Second World War , Dossor moved to Australia and became a professor at the University of Adelaide . From 1953 to 1979 he taught at the music conservatory there.
