history

In the county of Zollern , to which Hechingen belonged as the capital, the Hechinger Stadtschultheiß was chairman of a twelve-person court in the early Middle Ages that pronounced the penalties. The highest court lords were always the counts and later princes of Hohenzollern. The Prussian- Hohenzollern district court was established four years after the revolution of 1848/49 . This was housed in the old town in a building in what was then Schrannengasse, which gave way to a parking lot in the post-war period. A new building south of the city began as early as 1869. The new district court building at Heiligkreuzstraße 9 was completed in 1875. It houses both parts of the district court and the district court. The architects Carl Libotte and Wilhelm Friedrich Laur as royal government and building advisors were involved in the construction. The attic and the third floor of the late classical building burned out completely during the war years. The damage was repaired in 1942/43, but only a new roof was put on for repairs, so that the court has only two floors to this day.
