As the land hemisphere or land hemisphere , the hemisphere (hemisphere) of the terrestrial globe is referred to, which (calculated) has the largest proportion of land .

Its center is located at 47 ° 13 '  N , 1 ° 32'  W in the French city of Nantes in the Region Pays de la Loire . It covers all of Europe , Africa , North America and Greenland , around 95 percent of Asia (except for the Far Eastern coastal zones ) and two thirds of South America .

Almost 6/7 (85.6%) of the earth's land area is in the land hemisphere, 53 percent of which is covered by water and 47 percent by land. Thus, the water content predominates even in the hemisphere with the largest mainland content.

Globally, it is 71 percent water and 29 percent land.

The opposite water hemisphere (with the minimal amount of land) has its center in the southwestern Pacific , near the Bounty Islands of New Zealand .
