Lando (born January 23, 1990 ; † August 20, 2013 ) was an English thoroughbred horse that was bred by Acatenango from the Laurea at the Ittlingen Stud in Werne .

Racing career
Lando was already the leading horse of his year as a two-year-old, but then disappointed in the preparatory races for the derby. However , he won the German Derby as a big outsider with jockey Andrzey Tylicki in the saddle, clearly ahead of Monsun and Sternkönig. He broke Nereide's 57-year-old derby record . In 1995 Lando won the Japan Cup , one of the most highly endowed races in the world, by two lengths . Michael Roberts was in the saddle . Lando won ten times in 22 starts and was placed three times. With more than DM 5 million in winnings, Lando became the most profitable horse in Europe, overtaking his father Acatenango.
Breeding career
Lando initially worked as a sire at the Ittlingen stud and from this time he already had a prominent son Paolini , whose mother is the good racing mare Prairie Darling . Paolini replaced Lando in 2002 as the most profitable German horse racehorse. Today he is in turn a stallion at the Ittlingen Stud. From 2005 to 2011 Lando worked as a stallion in France, Lando's owner remained at the Ittlingen stud. Lando returned here for the 2011 breeding season. His bronze is in the Westphalian Horse Museum in Münster .
On August 20, 2013, Lando suffered a spiral fracture in his elbow joint while standing up after an intestinal colic operation and had to be put to sleep.
