The landscape protection area Heidenpost / Steintwisten and Niedernfeld with 40.15  hectares is located in the urban area of Marsberg and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan . The LSG was designated as a type B landscape planning area, peripheral locations, open land and cultivated land protection. The LSG consists of two areas east of Essentho . There are agricultural open land areas in the LSG. The LSG borders the nature reserve Randhöhen between Sintfeld and Diemeltal and the nature reserve Niedernfeld . On the southeast border of the eastern part of the area, the protected landscape component of field trees borders north of the Mühlenberg .

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open. Also because of its special importance for recreation. The LSG is intended to protect the open space around the Niedernfeld nature reserve, as the LSG areas do not justify designation as a nature reserve due to the species and biotope features. Keeping the LSG open serves to stabilize the songbird populations in the open land areas east of Essentho. On the eastern edge of the eastern part of the Steintwisten area, there are lean, partly shallow and agitated grassland areas with individual trees with a higher value for nature and the landscape.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the city, the LSG prohibits building structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Meschede, the LSG prohibits initial afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nurseries . There is a requirement to keep the LSG free of woodland through agricultural use or suitable maintenance measures.
