The approximately 14 hectares large conservation area Hensberg is located in the districts due Schöttel and Volmarstein the city Wetter (Ruhr) North Rhine-Westphalia. It was set up in 1984 in the course of drawing up the landscape plan for the Ennepe-Ruhr district . In the partial plan for the “Witten – Wetter – Herdecke area” it has the serial number 2.2.25.
The landscape protection area, which consists largely of deciduous and mixed forest , is almost completely surrounded by settlement areas. In the southeast it borders on the grounds of the Evangelical Foundation Volmarstein (orthopedic clinic), where the built-up hilltop of the Hensberg is also located (just outside the LSG). There is a 73 m difference in altitude within the reserve. Flowing waters are characteristic of the slope morphology of the area : the Heilkenbach and some nameless tributaries. Some of the streams form deep sieves .
The area was protected, among other things, to preserve the forest as a refuge for plants and animals, because of the beauty of the landscape and its special importance for local recreation .
