The Kohlbruck landscape protection area is a landscape protection area in the southwest of the city of Passau in the Haidenhof Nord district .

From 1963 to 1993 the Ritter von Scheuring barracks of the Bundeswehr stood in Kohlbruck. In 1994 the city of Passau acquired the area of 71.5 hectares that had become available for the Bundeswehr. With an ordinance issued by the city of Passau on October 8, 1997, which came into force on November 1, 1997, a large part of the former training area and the adjoining area were converted placed under landscape protection.

In total, the protected parts of the landscape cover an area of 103 hectares. From south to north, the area is traversed by the three-kilometer-long, renatured Scheuereckerbach. The Bachaue and the valley with the adjoining woody stands form a special protection zone within the landscape protection area, as does the deciduous forest south of Vornholz.

The forest west of the Scheuereckerbach belongs to the Neuburg Forest . It is a mixed forest rich in old wood , mainly with red beech , English oak , spruce and locust . To the east of the brook there are extensive meadows, some of them poor meadows with scattered single trees, field trees, rows of trees and populations of dwarf felt herb .

Some well-developed paths cross the area. From the animal world, the great spotted woodpecker , wood pigeons , common toads and blindworms can be observed, and occasionally one encounters rare insects such as the postillon , the golden beetle or the sawhorse .
