Agricultural tires are tires that are specially designed for use on agricultural vehicles . They can be differentiated according to

Vehicle / machine of use :

Implement or transport or trailer tires:
  • Industrial tires z. B. for forklifts
  • Light transport tires z. B. for garden tractors
  • Tractors (tractor tires / farm tractor tires or AS tires)

the respective axis of the insert :

  • Drive tires
  • Front tires (not with all-wheel drive / 4x4)

Type of carcass structure :

  • Diagonal tires (conventional tires)
  • Radial tire (belt tire)

as well as the lug / profile shape . Agricultural tires are sometimes also called farm tires. A tire label is not required for farm tires.

Size specification

Until a few years ago, the declaration was made entirely in inches:

20.8 R 38 indicates a radial tire with an overall width of 20.8 "on a 38" rim. However, this information says nothing about the ratio of the side height to the (nominal) tire width (tread width) in percent, so that this could also be a low-profile tire.

The name used for car tires was therefore used :

520/85 R 38 indicates the same tire (520 mm corresponds to 20.8 inches), the sidewall of which is now explicitly specified as 85% of the tire width. This high flank is common for this area due to the uneven contact areas.

Diagonal tires have disadvantages under difficult weather conditions and are therefore hardly sold in German-speaking countries.

Inch - metric unit

When specifying tire dimensions, manufacturers use either imperial or metric units of measurement.

Speed index

Agricultural tires are provided with a speed index. This is located on the tire wall. It indicates how high the maximum permitted speed is with the maximum payload (see load index LI).

Load index (LI)

The LI or load index (also load index) indicates the maximum load capacity of a tire in kilograms.
