Nokian Renkaat Oyj (English Nokian Tires ) is a group of companies from Finland and with the brand Nokian the leading manufacturer of car tires and tires for trucks, commercial vehicles and bicycles in Scandinavia , in tires for forestry equipment Nokian Tires is the global market leader in the fields . The company also develops and produces materials for tire retreading. Finally, the group includes the largest Scandinavian tire distribution chain, Vianor, with 170 sales branches in Finland , Sweden , Norway , Estonia and Russia . The brand name "Nokian Renkaat" refers to the small town of Nokia in southern Finland , not far west of the city of Tampere . Translated into German, it means “Nokia tires”. The roots of the tire manufacturer go back to the rubber factory " Kumitehdas " founded in the western Finnish city in 1889 , as well as those of the electronics company Nokia , the rubber boot manufacturer Nokian Jalkineet and other companies of considerable importance for today's Finnish economy.

The company employs over 2500 people and is listed in the OMX Helsinki 25 financial index. With net sales of 423.4 million euros, the company achieved the seventh-largest net sales of all tire manufacturers in Europe in 2001 and was 21st out of around 130 tire manufacturers worldwide. The company has been independent and listed on the stock exchange since 1995. The former parent company Nokia holds 19 percent of the shares. In 2003, the Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone Europe SA took over 20 percent of the shares, but gradually reduced its stake again and in 2020 only holds around 3 percent.

The company's headquarters are in the city of Nokia, with another production facility in Lieksa . In 2005 Nokian opened another tire factory in Russia, near St. Petersburg.
