Long Night (radio)

Long night describes a broadcast genre in radio that is mostly special programming on certain topics.

In the Wiener Funkhaus / Radiokulturhaus there is a "Long Night of Radio Drama", during which the ORF radio play prizes are awarded. The first took place on January 17, 1994 with the award of the "Radio Play of the Year 1993" award. The event is a public event - thus a " Long Night " as a marathon event - and is broadcast live on the radio. The event was later expanded to include other Austrian cities. There are also other long nights on Ö1 throughout the year.

In addition, the “Long Night” is a weekly series of programs on Deutschlandradio that deals intensively with just one topic for three hours. It begins in the night from Friday to Saturday at 00:05 on Deutschlandfunk Kultur and is repeated on Saturday from 23:05 on Deutschlandfunk . The Long Night about Hunter S. Thompson with the title “The Crazy Never Die” on October 22, 2011 was awarded the German Radio Prize 2012 in the “Best Show” category on September 7, 2012 and on the night of October 8th Retransmitted September 9, 2012.

Other ARD radio stations broadcast a “Long Night of Audio Books ” or one on current literature on current occasions, such as during one of the book fairs in Frankfurt am Main or Leipzig .
