Langfurth is a district of the community Schöfweg in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

location

The parish village is located in a north-westerly position below the summit of the Brotjacklriegel in the Bavarian Forest .

history

Langfurth emerged together with other settlements after the Thirty Years War . 1752 lived in Langfurth ten Häusler , who belonged to the Official Heimgut.

On the slopes of the sunny forest, new spatial rights were repeatedly given to the forest houses. In 1806/97 there were 16 families in Unterlangfurth, including five farmers, and twenty cottagers in Oberlangfurth. They had the right to obtain forest litter and wood from the state forests, for which they paid a kreuzer writing fee by fuder , namely in the form of a local truckload that could be carried away with two oxen.

In 1851 there were 12 property owners in Unterlangfurth and 10 in Oberlangfurth. The Langfurth Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1885 . The residents of the village made a living from agriculture and forestry. The meadow culture predominated with the meadow irrigation that is common in the Bavarian Forest .

After the Second World War, tourism became increasingly important. Winter sports on the slopes of the Sonnenwald, in particular, enjoyed a strong boom. A hotel was to be built in 1974 during the bed boom in the Bavarian Forest. It is divided into three separate wings. These consist largely of wood and have the shape of oversized Waldler houses. Today they are used as private holiday apartments. Five ski lifts take you to the heights of the Sonnenwald, the summit section of which is 920 meters above sea level and is connected to the Brotjacklriegel via a saddle.

Attractions

The simple parish church Maria Himmelfahrt was built in 1864 as a village chapel. In 1876, a so-called fair reading point was set up in Langfurth, which said that a priest who usually lived in retirement, the fair reader, had to celebrate masses here at certain times. An expositur was set up in 1882, and in 1889 it was elevated to parish status . The church underwent changes in 1884 when the nave was lengthened and in 1906 when the steeple was built. In 1989 the parish had 358 Catholics.
