The Langhäger See is an outflow-free two-part lake in the Müritz National Park in the urban area of Neustrelitz in the Mecklenburg Lake District , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The measuring table sheet from 1884 still shows it as a contiguous body of water with two distinct lake basins in the middle of the Grand Duke's Forest Langhagen, whose banks were only unforested towards the forester's house on its southeast side.
Progressive siltation and a slightly sinking water level closed the narrow connection. Today, an artificial ditch connects the basins. The north, west-east stretched part with 660 meters long and 280 meters wide has an area of 18.5 hectares. It is located in protection zone I (core zone) of the Müritz National Park ( Section 4 of the ordinance on the establishment of the “Müritz National Park”).
150 meters away is the larger of the two lake basins to the southeast. It has a rather north-south elongated oval shape with two heavily silted foothills to the south. With an extension of 790 meters in length by 450 meters in width, it has an area of 27 hectares and a maximum depth of 16 meters. On its east side, a circular hiking trail of the national park leads along the shore and through the old park of the former forester's house. A fishing permit can be obtained from the National Park Office for this part of the lake.
