The long-tailed bank rocker ( Cinclodes pabsti ), also known as the Santa Catarina bank rocker , is a songbird from the family of potters (Furnariidae), native to southeastern Brazil . It was discovered in 1966 and described by Helmut Sick in 1969 . It was named after the Brazilian botanist Guido Frederico João Pabst . It is closely related to the short-billed bank rocker ( Cinclodes fuscus ) and several scientists believe that both species became isolated from each other during the Pleistocene .

description

It reaches a length of 21.5 cm. Its plumage is generally light clay with reddish-brown wings. A long, whitish-gray eye streak extends from the back of the head to the beak. The throat and lower abdomen are whitish. The legs are gray.

Way of life

It flies quite well, but unlike other species in this family, it prefers to run and walk on the ground. Its diet consists of insects and other invertebrates.

It nests in rock niches and the breeding season is September to November.

Occurrence & habitat

It is endemic to the southeast of Santa Catarina State and northeast of Rio Grande do Sul . It prefers open grasslands and rocky areas at an altitude of 750–1700 m, also near farms and human dwellings.
