The Uferwipper ( Cinclodes ), also known as rocking tails , are a genus of thrush-sized passerine birds from the family of potters . They owe their name to their rocking tail movements, a behavior that is more reminiscent of a characteristic of the wagtail .
features
Uferwipper are stocky birds with strong legs and feet and pointed beaks that are slightly bent downwards. The inconspicuous plumage is mainly brown, often with a pale wing band. There is a stripe over the eyes and the tail is angular.
Vocalizations
Their singing consists of loud trills. They often raise their wings while singing.
distribution
Their distribution area is the Neotropic and extends from Venezuela , Peru , Chile , Uruguay , Bolivia , Brazil , Argentina , Falkland Islands , Tierra del Fuego to Cape Horn .
Habitat and way of life
Their habitat are coastal regions, mountain streams, wet grasslands (also in the vicinity of human dwellings) and rocky slopes at an altitude of 750 to 5500 m. Uferwipper species prefer to breed in rock niches or build caves.
