The Langsee is a bathing lake in the Mögeldorf district of Nuremberg . It is about 100 m long and covers a water surface of about 2400 m².

The Langsee swimming pool has been operated by the swimming club TSV 1846 Nuremberg since 1912.

Location and special features

The lake is located next to the Pegnitz , but has no connection to the river. It is located a little north of Wöhrder See, directly on the route of the Five Rivers Cycle Path or the Pegnitz Cycle Path (signposted “Pegnitztal - Ost”).

The Langsee is fed with groundwater from several underground springs . Therefore, the Langsee is noticeably cooler compared to other lakes.

Since the tree-lined banks drop steeply and the lake is up to 7 m deep, it is only suitable for swimmers. There are five different entry options and an approx. 2 m high springboard . There are also two jetties in the lake. A floating pontoon bridge shortens the way to the sunbathing area. There is a separate solar-heated pool and a paddling pool for non-swimmers and children .

Once a year the traditional lake festival takes place in the long seaside resort, the highlight being a jousting is.

A small area on the western edge of the lake, which is covered by yellow pond roses , is a refuge for the fish, especially when many swimmers populate the water on hot days. Numerous yellow swamp irises grow on the bank in spring , followed by blood loosestrife and loosestrife in summer . Various types of dragonflies can be found on the shores of the lake in summer .

At the lake there is a spacious sunbathing and play area with a beach volleyball field and a designated nudist area.

Since the Langsee had to be closed several times between 2004 and 2006 due to the unhealthy proliferation of blue-green algae , the city of Nuremberg decided on a comprehensive renovation concept. This includes both the desludging of the lake and the use of a Pelicon system, which chemically reduces the phosphate in the water.
