Champagne Lanson is a champagne brand and a champagne house without its own vineyards.

history

It was founded in 1760 by François Delamotte. It was named after Jean-Baptiste Lanson (1777-1858), who was then only a minor , and a student at the Collège des Bons Enfants in Reims . His legal guardian uncle, Abbot Legros, fled with him from the Revolutionary Army during the French Revolution to the Westphalian Münster , where a wine merchant who was friends worked. After their return to Reims, Lanson found the influential lawyer and dealer François Delamotte there, with whom he signed a supply contract at the age of 18. Münster presented itself as an excellent market for champagne and Lanson was able to act very successfully and on a large scale.

Lanson was able to buy the wine trade from Delamotte in 1837 after a nine-year partnership and founded "Lanson & Cie". The trade now extended to Holland and England. After the upheavals of the 1848 revolution , Jean-Baptiste's son Victor-Marie got into the business and many successful years of the Belle Époque began . By 1930 a worldwide trade network had been established that reached as far as the United States of America, New Zealand, the Far East and New Caledonia. Victor's son Étienne ran the business until 1967, in 1976 the house came into the hands of "Maison Massé" for the first time, and in 1984 to the Danone Group. Since 1991 it has belonged to the “Marne et Champagne” house, in 1996 Lanson was bought by the Boizel - Chanoine Group (BCC).

Lanson has been a purveyor to the British court since the Victoria era and can therefore bear the coat of arms of the British royal family on his label. The Maltese cross, which is partly printed on the labels, was awarded by the founder Delamotte, who was a knight of the Order of Malta . Lanson's most important product is the “Black Label” line, which was created in 1937 and does not use any vintage wines in production. Today around 65% of production is exported.

Black Label Brut

The branded product Black Label Brut consists of 35% Chardonnay , 50% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier , of which 25% is classified. The sparkling wines are pressed in the classic style and vinified without malolactic fermentation. The maturation takes place in the air-conditioned cellars of the house. The taste can be described as fruity-aromatic and fresh. The fruit tone is enough for yellow Mediterranean fruits such as apricot, nectarine, pear or pineapple.
