Laramie (also called Café Westend ) is the name of a nationally known pub on the East Frisian island of Spiekeroog . The restaurant is located about 2 km away from the island village and campground in the Westend, directly on the dike . It can be reached on foot, but also by a historic horse-drawn tram during the holiday season . The single-track route is a remaining section of the former Spiekeroog island railway .

The small house in the traditional spa style of the turn of the century was built in 1899 as the first hot bath on the island. When the North Sea was too cold , the spa guests could be treated in baths with heated sea water . This function was later lost when the main bathing beach was relocated further east. From 1934 the house served as the airport building for the island's airport until the runway was blown up at the end of the Second World War .

After the war, the building was used as Café Westend in the 1950s and became a popular restaurant among islanders and holidaymakers. After the storm surge of 1962 , the restaurant lay fallow. Then Edmund Jess (1928–1995), known as Eddi , from Westphalia , took over the location, which became a cult as Laramie with an ambience of shark bar and stylish beach café. In the beer garden on the dunes facing terrace occasional concerts. Here were, among others, Fury in the Slaughterhouse and each to Pentecost of the maritime-oriented musician Jonny Glut plays with his band.

The song “I still have sand in the shoe of Spiekeroog” by Jonny Glut, which became the unofficial island anthem, is reminiscent of the legendary Laramie host Edmund Jess. His direct successor as landlord is Dirk Nannen, a native of Baltrumer , who continues in the same style.
