Largie Castle is a ruined castle in the village Rhunahaorine on the peninsula Kintyre in Scotland administrative unit Argyll and Bute .
history
The castle was built by the MacDonald of Largie clan , descendants of the Lords of the Isles of the MacDonald family . They had owned the land since the mid-15th century. This was the seat of the family until it was moved to Largie Castle in Tayinloan at the end of the 18th century . The castle is said to have been a small, simple, but fortified house with a rectangular floor plan.
After the Battle of Rhunahaorine Moss general ordered David Leslie , the castle in 1647 grind .
today
Under the ruins of a farmhouse there are parts of the building that are assigned to the old castle: At the southwest end of the farm there is a cellar that is filled with rubble. On the northern and eastern edge there are 2.2 meter high pieces of wall that were once part of the enclosure of the castle.
