Larry Hovis

Larry Hovis (born February 20, 1936 in Wapato , Washington , † September 9, 2003 in San Marcos , Texas ) was an American actor and singer , best known in Germany for his role as Sergeant Andrew Carter in A Cage Full of Heroes has been.

In contrast to the quirky and mentally slightly underexposed character he embodied, Hovis was a highly intelligent man. He studied philosophy at the University of Houston in the 1950s and after his career in front of the camera worked as a professor at the State University of San Marcos.

Early on in his life he discovered his talent for singing. With his sister Joan and a few friends, he sang in a quartet called The Mascots , which even appeared on a television show. Later he was a singer in various bands and also recorded some records, such as My Heart Belongs to Only You .

After graduating, Hovis moved to New York , where he appeared on a few Broadway shows in the late 1950s and early 1960s .

In A Cage Full of Heroes , he was originally only supposed to play a small role in the pilot. However, when two actors dropped out on short notice, his role was firmly integrated into the series.

Larry Hovis died on September 9, 2003 of esophageal cancer .
