Lars-Åke Lagrell

Lars-Åke Lagrell (born January 20, 1940 in Älmeboda near Växjö ) is a Swedish football official and politician .

Career

Lagrell was active at IK Cyrus in Jönköping . In 1974 he started his career as a chairman of the Småland Football Association and in 1980 was promoted to the Swedish Football Association's board of directors . In 1985 he gave up this post in favor of the general secretary of the national association and in 1986 also resigned from the chairmanship of the Småland association. Until he was elected President of Svenska Fotbollförbundet in 1991, he was General Secretary.

From 1986 Lagrell was also involved in football on an international level. During his time as SvFF general secretary, as a member of the UEFA committee for futsal, he also campaigned for the development of this fringe sport; between 1996 and 2000 he was also a member of the UEFA club competition committee. In 2002 Göran Persson appointed him regional president ( Landshövding ) of the province Kronobergs län , until 2006 he remained in office. The parallel exercise of the two offices was controversial, as both tasks require a large amount of time. In 2004, he was also a member of the Board of for hosting the 2004 European competent Euro 2004 SA

In December 2010, Lagrell announced his departure as association chairman for 2012.
