Lars Östlund

Lars Yngve Östlund (born August 15, 1921 in Stockholm , † December 2, 2012 in Lund ) was a Swedish civil engineer .

Östlund studied at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm with the degree in 1945, studied there again from 1948 and became a lecturer in bridge construction there after receiving his doctorate in 1954 . In between he worked as an engineer at Skanska from 1945 to 1948 . From 1957 to 1965 he was a contractor for the construction company Byggnads AB . From 1965 to 1986 he was professor of civil engineering at the newly founded Lund Technical University . There he was also dean and retired in 1986 .

During the development phase of the use of nuclear power in Sweden, he was involved in the development of constructive safety measures. He was chairman of the state advisory committee on building research in the 1960s.

In 1990 he received the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering . In 1981 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering.
