On December 23, 1987, Lars Schlecker and his sister Meike were kidnapped by Herbert Franz Jacoby , Wilhelm Hudelmaier and Dieter Hudelmaier in front of the family villa in Ehingen, Baden-Württemberg . They were released the next day. The kidnappers, who extorted DM 9.6 million in ransom , were sentenced in 1999 to long prison terms.

Schlecker studied business administration at the European Business School in London. In Berlin , he graduated in 2000 the Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the School of Management and Innovation (SMI) at the Steinbeis University Berlin .

At the time of the dot-com bubble , he gained experience with the Surplex company with Marc Schrempp, the son of Jürgen Schrempp . From around 2000 he worked in his parents' company, most recently in management. In November 2010 he went public with his sister Meike Schlecker and announced that they would be jointly responsible for corporate communications in the future. On January 30, 2012, Meike Schlecker appeared in front of the press on behalf of the family to announce the bankruptcy of the drugstore chain and the end of the family's wealth. Together with his sister, Lars is also a partner in the companies LDG Logistik- und Dienstleistungsgesellschaft mbH and BDG Bau- und Dienstleistungsgesellschaft mbH, which have also gone bankrupt.

Imprisonment

On April 13, 2016, the Stuttgart public prosecutor brought charges against Lars Schlecker, along with his parents and sister, for aiding and abetting intentional bankruptcy , delaying bankruptcy and breach of trust , as they are said to have stashed millions of euros before the 2012 bankruptcy was announced. The Stuttgart district court sentenced him on 27 November 2017 for filing for insolvency, infidelity and aid to bankruptcy to a prison sentence of two years and nine months. The next day, he appealed against the judgment revision one. On April 25, 2019, the appeal was dismissed by the Federal Court of Justice and Lars Schlecker was finally sentenced to a prison term of two years and seven months.

Schlecker began his prison sentence in June 2019 in the Hakenfelde correctional facility .
