The Urspring School is an evangelical boarding school in private ownership and a recognized child and youth welfare facility in Urspring near Schelklingen in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg .
school
The original school includes a primary school for grades 3 and 4 and a state-recognized grammar school . Grades 3 and 4 are taught together. In 2012, the first class in the eight-year high school education (G8) passed their Abitur in Urspring, so that, together with the nine-year high school education (G9) that was usual up until then, there was a one-time double Abitur class.
In parallel to the high school education, a recognized apprenticeship with a final journeyman's examination in several trades (carpenter, bespoke tailor (focus on women), precision mechanic (focus on mechanical engineering), process mechanic for plastics and rubber technology) is possible from the eighth grade. There are currently around 140 girls and boys living in the boarding school, and the same number of day care students come on weekdays. Around 50 educational staff work with the children and young people.
In addition, the Urspring School has been an officially recognized basketball boarding school by the German Basketball Federation since the mid-1990s . In 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013, the school's U-19 team won the championship in the youth basketball league . The team included several national players.
History and present
The Urspring School was founded in 1930 by Bernhard Hell in the reform pedagogical tradition of the rural education homes on the site of the former Benedictine convent . Today international relations are in the foreground: As part of the EU's Comenius program, there have been intensive contacts with partner schools in Belgium, England, Iceland, Norway, Poland and Hungary for more than ten years. A new partnership with a school in Slovenia is being initiated.
In recent years, several buildings have been extensively renovated: the girls' house (formerly the lower ecclesiastical inn) from 1520 shines in new splendor , as does the gardener's house (formerly the Oberamt) and the upper house (formerly the clerk's office). Work on the Hellhaus , the former upper secular guest house from 1495, was also completed.
New additions are a gymnasium, in which international basketball tournaments can be held, and an all-day center with additional classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, table tennis, a café (Blue Chili Cafe) and much more. The externally run "Blue Chili" café is also a popular destination for many hikers who take a break at the Urspring School on nice days. The range of offers in the leisure sector extends from various sports to music, theater, workshops (tailoring, carpentry, pottery), a school disco ("pigsty") to the school's own volunteer fire department. The departmental brigade of the Schelklingen volunteer fire brigade, which has existed since 1980, has around 20 members from among the students, its own LF8-TS fire fighting vehicle and, if necessary, works together with the Schelklingen volunteer fire brigade . There is also the opportunity to deal extensively with animals (from small animals to horses).
The school is a member of the school association 'Blick über den Zaun' and the boarding school association .
