Sid-Marlon Theis (born April 26, 1993 in Henstedt-Ulzburg , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German basketball player . Theis attended the boarding school of the Urspring School , where he was twice champion of the youth basketball league (NBBL) with the youth team Team Urspring, set up in cooperation with TSV Ehingen . For the 2014/15 season, the former youth national player moved from the Ehingen men's team in the second-highest division ProA to the first division club Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. Theis is not related to the brothers Frank and Daniel Theis from Salzgitter , who also played basketball in Braunschweig.

Career

Club career

From 2009, Theis attended the boarding school at the Urspring School in Schelklingen , which has made a name for itself, among other things, for training basketball players. With the youth team in the youth basketball league (NBBL), Theis won the championship together with Kevin Bright in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 they lost the semi-finals against the eventual title winner TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach , the offspring of the men's champion Brose Baskets .

After Theis had his first eight appearances in national men's leagues in ProA 2011/12 , he was part of the rotation of players in the second highest German men's league in ProA 2012/13 with a good 17 minutes per game. The Ehingen men's team reached eighth place for the first time in the play-offs for promotion to the top division, in which they failed in the first round on the main round first and later promoted SC Rasta Vechta . In the following ProA 2013/14 , the Ehinger were able to increase their result again and reached the play-offs as third in the main round, where they only narrowly failed in the first round at rent4office Nuremberg . The former first division team from Nuremberg, however, also missed promotion and then signed Ehingen coach Ralph Junge . Theis also left the Swabian Alb and switched to the first division basketball lion from Braunschweig . In the 2014/15 season , the Lower Saxony narrowly missed entry into the play-offs for the German championship because of the poorer direct comparison . In his first season in the first division, Theis made 16 appearances with just under five minutes per game. In the summer of 2017, Theis moved within the league and signed a contract with the Walter Tigers Tübingen . With the Tübingen team, Theis was relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2017/18 season , he stayed in the top German division by moving to Science City Jena . With the Thuringians, he was again relegated to the Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season.

During the summer break of 2019, Theis accepted a contract offer from the Bundesliga relegated Eisbären Bremerhaven . In the 19/20 season, which had already been canceled in mid-March 2020 due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus , he was in second place with the polar bears at the time of the premature end, which meant that he had the right to promotion to the Bundesliga. Theis had scored an average of 12.5 points for the polar bears over the course of the season. In July 2020 he moved to the Rostock Seawolves within the second division .

National team

Theis was used in 2011 for the first time in a final squad of a DBB junior team. At the U18 European Championship he reached eleventh place together with Dennis Schröder and Paul Zipser, among others . In August 2017 he took part in the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei with the German national student team. In mid-November 2018, national coach Henrik Rödl Theis called for the first time in the German men's national team. He made his debut on December 3 in the 87:70 win against Estonia , in which he contributed four points.
