Zaire Benjamin Thompson (born October 24, 1995 in Chicago ) is a US- born German basketball player . He has been under contract with Lützel Baskets Koblenz since 2019.

career

Thompson was born in Chicago , Illinois, and grew up in Weilheim , Germany. In 2009 he moved from his hometown club TSV Weilheim to the basketball boarding school at the Urspring School . In 2011 he won the German championship title with the school's U16 team, and in 2013 he became German U19 champions with Urspring. He made his debut for Ehingen / Ursprings men's team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA during the 2012/13 season. In December 2012, with the selection of the Urspring School, he was the first foreign team to win the Arby's Classic, a tournament in Bristol (US state Tennessee ).

In the 2014/15 season Thompson studied at Fordham University and came to nine assignments in the NCAA during this time .

For the 2015/16 season, Thompson returned to Germany and rejoined the Ehingen / Urspring team, with whom he became champion of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in the spring of 2016 and thus made his way back to the ProA.

In the summer of 2017 he moved to the Rostock Seawolves in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. With the Rostockers, Thompson achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2017/2018 season and thus contributed to the greatest success in the club's history. However, he stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and joined the ETB Essen in summer 2018 . After a difficult year in Essen, in which his team's license was withdrawn shortly before the end of the season, Thompson moved to regional league team Lützel Baskets Koblenz during the summer break of 2019.
