Mario Blessing (born January 10, 1992 in Filderstadt ) is a German basketball player on the position of playmaker . Blessing measures 1.88 meters. He was last in the squad of VfL Bochum in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

Career

Blessing played football at TSV Mähringen and from the age of twelve basketball at SV 03 Tübingen . At the age of 15 he went to the basketball boarding school of the Urspring School . He played for their youth teams and made his debut for Ehingen / Urspring School in the third-class 2. Bundesliga ProB during the 2009/10 season . In 2011 he won the ProB championship with the team.

From the 2011/12 season, Blessing continued his career at the University of South Carolina Upstate in the first division of the NCAA and also studied economics. During his four-year stay in the United States, he was used in 137 games for "USC Upstate" and scored an average of 4.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds per encounter. In recognition of his academic achievements, in March 2015 he was named “Scholar Athlete of the Year” by the Atlantic Sun Conference .

After completing his US college career, Blessing moved back to his home country and played for the second division club Nürnberger BC in the 2015/16 season - as with Ehingen / Urspring School under coach Ralph Junge . In June 2016 he was signed by Nuremberg's season rival Hamburg Towers for the 2016/17 season. After a year at the Towers, Blessing moved to SC Rist Wedel in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in summer 2017 . He stayed in Wedel for two years and was team captain in the 2018/19 season, but only played nine games due to an ankle injury (9.9 points and 3.8 assists per game). Together with coach Félix Bañobre , he moved to VfL Bochum within the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in summer 2019 . Due to an injury, he only made a few appearances in Bochum and left the club during the 2020 summer break.

National team

Blessing won the B-EM in 2008 with the German national team in the U18 age group and later also took part in the U18 EM in 2010 and in the U20 EM in 2012.
