Félix Bañobre

Félix Bañobre Carballo (born July 5, 1970 in London ) is a Spanish basketball coach .

Life

Bañobre was born in London  , at the age of 15 he moved with his family from Great Britain to A Coruña in Galicia . Until 1993 he worked as a coach in the youth division of the then Spanish first division club Clesa Ferrol and in the 1993/94 season then assistant coach of Ferrol's men's team in the ACB league . From 1994 to 1996 Bañobre was head coach at Veliña As Pontes, and from 1996 to 1998 he coached the second division club Viajes Aliguer Pineda. In the period from 1998 to 2000 he was the head coach of Abeconsa Ferrol (also second Spanish division) and then coached the team CB Galicia for five years until 2005, partly also in the second division. In the 2005/06 season Bañobre was an assistant coach on the staff of the first division team CB Breogán . He then returned to the youth field and worked from 2006 to 2009 as a youth coach for the Spanish first division club Pamesa Valencia. As part of basketball camps in the summer, where he worked in addition to his duties as a club coach, he also trained later NBA and national players such as Sergio Llull , Ricky Rubio as well as Marc Gasol  and Pau Gasol .

In the 2009/10 season he was the head coach of Ferrol CB (successor club to CB Galicia) in Spain's fourth-highest league. After three years as a coach in the youth division of the Aviva SYO club from A Coruña, he moved abroad: In April 2013, Bañobre was introduced as the new head coach of the Danish first division club FOG Næstved . In December 2013 Næstved and Bañobre split up. The Spaniard was again coach of Ferrol CB in the following season 2014/15 and started his second international position at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. Bañobre took over the coaching position at the German regional league club BC Erfurt, which worked with the second division Gotha at the time .

For the 2016/17 season he moved within Germany to SC Rist Wedel in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . He stayed there for three years and worked closely with Hamburg Towers , not only looking after the Wedel team in the 2016/17 season, but also the Piraten Hamburg, i.e. the Towers youngsters, in the NBBL . He led Wedel to third place in the ProB main round in the 2018/19 season. In the spring of 2019, Bañobre moved from Wedel to VfL Bochum within the 2. Bundesliga ProB and took over the position of head coach.
