Jermain Raffington (born May 1, 1985 in Hamburg ) is a German presenter and former basketball player .

After studying for two years in the United States , Raffington, the son of a German mother and a Jamaican father, turned professional in Germany in 2007. After three seasons in the second ProA division , he played in the top division basketball league from 2010 to 2013 , initially for the BG 74 Göttingen and until 2013 for the Eisbären Bremerhaven when he returned to the BG Göttingen in the ProA.

Basketball career

Raffington grew up in Bad Krozingen and first played in youth teams at USC Freiburg , where he made it to the youth national team . He then moved to the basketball boarding school of the Urspring School and played for the teams from Ehingen called Steeples in the youth classes and, from 2003, also for the men's team in the second division. After graduating from high school in 2005, Raffington went to study in the United States. After the NCAA evaluated his assignments in the second German division as a professional practice, they denied him the immediate "eligibility" ( German NCAA player authorization ) for Division I, which is why Raffington first went to the "Southeastern Community College" in Burlington (Iowa) , whose ambitious basketball team "Blackhawks" were national champions of the "National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association" in 2003 and 2004. Here Raffington also managed to attract NCAA Division I colleges and universities . In January 2007, he decided to go to Butler University among the scholarships offered for continuing his studies . Raffington then gave private reasons in the summer of 2007 to forego this scholarship and return to Germany.

When he returned from the United States in 2007, Raffington signed a contract with BV 99 from Chemnitz for the ProA 2007/08 . In the new second-highest German league, however, the Saxons only reached the penultimate place in the table at the end of the season and managed to stay in the league only by renouncing another team. Raffington moved to the league rivals from Bayreuth for the following season . After a promotion place was missed in the ProA 2008/09 only because of the poorer direct comparison , the ProA 2009/10 won the championship and the promotion to the top German division. In addition, the club in Cuxhaven won against the host in the final of the DBB cup competition , which was held without the participation of the first division teams.

For the basketball Bundesliga 2010/11 Raffington moved from the promoted team to the new league competitor BG 74 from Göttingen , who had previously won the EuroChallenge 2009/10 . In the first division team, which also competed in the Eurocup 2010/11 , Raffington did not get the desired playing time and he moved to Bremerhaven for the league competitor Eisbären for the following season . Raffington could hardly increase his game shares here and the polar bears missed the entry into the play-offs for the German championship for the first time in two years . The polar bears could not reach the play-offs in 2012/2013 either. After his contract in Bremerhaven expired, Raffington returned to the BG Göttingen and played again in the ProA for his former club in the 2013/14 season . He then ended his professional career.

Media career

Raffington is an avid photographer in his spare time and has already accepted commissioned work for magazines and journals. He moderated and produced the web magazine schwarzrotgold tv , which dealt with the life and experiences of black Germans . He worked as an author for Vice magazine and as a presenter of the program Die Vice Reports on RTL II .

Others

He is the brother of Justin Raffington .
