Justin Tafari Raffington (born March 26, 1991 in Hamburg ) is a German basketball player . It measures 2.06 meters and is used in the indoor position. Raffington has been part of AS Denain Voltaire's squad since summer 2020 .

Career

Raffington was born in Hamburg to a German mother and a Jamaican father and grew up in Bad Krozingen from the age of four . He played basketball in the youth department of the USC Freiburg and at the age of 15 switched to the basketball boarding school at Ursprungingschule , for whose team he played in the youth basketball league , among other things . During the 2008-09 season Raffington made his debut for natural gas Ehingen / Urspringschule in the 2. Bundesliga Pro B .

For the 2010/11 season he moved to the University of San Francisco , where he studied (international economics and marketing) and played basketball for two years. In 2012, Raffington moved within NCAA Division 1 to Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Due to the transfer regulations of the NCAA, he was not allowed to play games for FAU during the 2012/13 season, but took part in the team's training operations. The following 2013/14 season was the best of its time in the United States in terms of statistical values: Raffington was in 32 games 27 times in the starting lineup and achieved averages of 10.1 points and 8.5 rebounds. In his final year in the USA, Raffington was a top performer at FAU and contributed an average of 9.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in 19 games in the 2014/15 season.

He returned to his home country and signed a contract with Gladiators Trier from the 2nd Bundesliga Pro A at the end of July 2015 . With the team he reached the playoff semi-finals of the second highest German division and scored nine points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 25 season appearances.

He left Trier after one season and moved within the 2. Bundesliga Pro A to Hamburg Towers , which announced Raffingtons commitment in July 2016. At the end of December 2017 he suffered a knee injury that turned out to be a cruciate ligament tear . Raffington then had to undergo an operation. In the 2018/19 season he was promoted to the basketball Bundesliga with the Hamburg team as champions of the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . Raffington stood in 40 encounters on the field during the championship season and achieved averages of 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds.

In July 2019 he signed a four-month contract with the first division club Medi Bayreuth . After playing seven Bundesliga games (3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per encounter) for the Franconians, he moved within the league to SC Rasta Vechta in early January 2020 . He played five league games for the team from Lower Saxony (1.2 points / game).

In the summer of 2020 Raffington accepted an offer from the French second division club AS Denain Voltaire .

National team

In 2009 Raffington took part in the European Championship in Metz, France, with the U18 national team.

His older brother Jermain Raffington was also a professional basketball player.
