Thekla Walker (born March 28, 1969 in Dülmen ) is a German politician of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party from Stuttgart . She has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for the state electoral district of Böblingen since May 2016 .

Life and work

Thekla Walker graduated from high school in 1988 in Schelklingen , then from 1989–1997 studied history at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . From 1993 to 1999 he worked at the House of History in Baden-Württemberg. From 2002–2004 she was the City of Göppingen's marketing representative. From 2002 to 2003 she completed a training to natural educator at the Nature School Freiburg. Between 2003 and 2006 she completed a part-time course to train as a class teacher at the Stuttgart Free University , Seminar for Waldorf Education . From 2004 to 2005 she worked as a freelancer at the Evangelical Mission in Southwest Germany and the Evangelical Association for the Fast Schools in the Middle East . After that, until 2008 she was a press and public relations officer at the Association of Waldorf Schools . In 2009 she became a project manager at the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) in Stuttgart and a lecturer in nature education at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart . She is married and has two kids.

Thekla Walker has been committed to the Greens since 2008. She was city ​​councilor in Stuttgart from 2009 to 2014 and from October 8, 2011 to November 19, 2016 one of the two state chairmen of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Baden-Württemberg . Since 2014 she has also been a member of the radio council of Deutschlandradio for the state of Baden-Württemberg . On February 10, 2015, the Stuttgarter Zeitung reported that Walker would like to run for the 2016 state election in constituency 5 - Böblingen. On April 16, 2015, she was confirmed as a candidate for the state parliament with 97.5% of the votes at the Greens nomination event in Sindelfingen.

In the state elections in 2016, Thekla Walker won the first green direct mandate in the state electoral district of Böblingen by 37 votes and has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg since May 2016. She is the finance and animal welfare spokeswoman for the Greens parliamentary group and its deputy group leader.
