Andreas Braun (born March 21, 1964 in Darmstadt ) is a former German politician. From 1999 to 2006 he was state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Baden-Württemberg .

Life

After graduating from high school, Braun studied Protestant theology in Tübingen from 1983 to 1988 . From 1987 to 1990 he worked for Christa Vennegerts, member of the Bundestag .

From 1992 to 2004 he was a consultant for European and international politics at the trade union for public services, transport and traffic (ver.di) and from 2004 to 2005 trade union secretary at the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). From 2005 onwards, Braun headed the communication and marketing department at the Stuttgart Clinic .

In 1997 he became a member of the extended state board of the Greens. On April 24, 1999, he was elected co-state chairman alongside Monika Schnaitmann in the dual leadership of the Greens in Baden-Württemberg . Since December 2, 2005 and his third re-election, the former member of the Bundestag Petra Selg was the second of the two chairmen with equal rights. At the state party conference in November 2006, he resigned from the office of state chairman.

In the federal election in 2002 , Braun was a candidate on the Baden-Württemberg state list of the Greens . In the European elections in 2009 , he ran on the federal list.

Andreas Braun was head of department at the Stuttgart City Hospital from 2005 to 2015. In 2008 an “International Unit” (IU) was founded there to reduce the persistent deficit by means of rich patients from Russia or the Middle East. Starting in 2014, Braun and 20 other employees at the Stuttgart Clinic were investigated on suspicion of taking advantage and bribery in connection with agencies that received commissions for referring patients to the IU. The allegations included billing for services that were not performed, bogus invoices, the payment of improper commissions and the granting of interest-free loans to hospital staff. From May to September 2018 Brown was therefore in custody .

Braun resigned from his party in August 2018.

In January 2019, allegations were published that Braun was involved in another corruption case. He is said to have bribed an employee of the Stuttgart trams for placing an order.

Braun supported the "German CSR Forum, international forum for sustainability and future viability". There he was a member of the board of trustees for many years.

Andreas Braun is married and has three children.
