Joachim Zelter (born August 26, 1962 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German writer .

Life

Joachim Zelter is one of the descendants of Carl Friedrich Zelter . After graduating from high school, he studied English and political science at the University of Tübingen from 1982 to 1989 and graduated with a master's degree . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Tübingen. In 1993 he did his doctorate there with a literary thesis for a doctorate in philosophy in English . In 1995/96 he held a teaching position in German studies at Yale University in New Haven (Connecticut) ; In 1996/97 he taught modern English literature at the University of Tübingen.

At the age of 34 he decided to become a writer, and he had almost finished his first book Letters from America . After many rejections, letters from America and The Dignity of Lying finally appeared in the small Ithaka publishing house. When Joachim Zelter became better known, he received a request from the Tübingen Klöpfer & Meyer Verlag , which has since been publishing his works. Since 1997 he has lived as a freelance writer in Tübingen . His work consists mainly of narrative prose, which often shows a tendency towards political satire , but also towards tragicomic . In recent years he has written stage versions of his prose texts as well as independent theater pieces that have been performed on numerous stages in Germany and Austria. His 2010 novel Der Ministerpräsident appeared on the longlist for the German Book Prize . Zelter is a member of the Association of German Writers and the PEN Center in Germany .
