Lars Ulrik Mortensen

Lars Ulrik Mortensen (born November 9, 1955 in Esbjerg ) is a Danish harpsichordist and conductor .

Life

Mortensen studied at the Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen with Karen Englund ( harpsichord ) and Jesper Bøje Christensen ( thoroughbass ), he continued his studies with the harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock in London. From 1988 to 1990 Mortensen was a harpsichordist with the Ensemble London Baroque , and from 1990 to 1993 he played at Collegium Musicum 90 under Simon Standage . He often works with musicians such as John Holloway , Jaap ter Linden and Emma Kirkby . The recordings that were made with his participation received prizes such as the Diapason d'or , the Grammy and the Cannes Classical Award .

Since the end of the 1990s, Mortensen has increasingly appeared as a conductor, since 1999 as artistic director of Concerto Copenhagen and since 2004 one of the guest conductors of the European Union's Baroque Orchestra , to which he was previously associated as a harpsichord tutor.

Mortensen taught at various music academies in Denmark and was professor of harpsichord and historical performance practice at the Munich University of Music from 1996 to 1999 before he decided to pursue a career as a performing musician. Mortensen continues to give numerous master classes and is often represented on juries of international music competitions.
