John Holloway (musician)
John Holloway (born July 19, 1948 in Neath , Wales ) is a British violinist and conductor .

John Holloway studied violin with Yfrah Neaman and chamber music in the class of William Pleeth at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London . After initial engagements, etc. a. at the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the English Chamber Orchestra , he was manager and concertmaster of the Kent Opera Orchestra in the 1970s. After meeting Sigiswald Kuijken in 1972, he began playing the baroque violin parallel to the modern violin , to which he then increasingly devoted himself. Holloway is now regarded as one of the most respected violinists, teachers and conductors in the field of historical performance practice .
In addition to recordings of the Four Seasons and L'Estro Armonico by Antonio Vivaldi , he played the entire chamber music work of George Frideric Handel on historical instruments for the first time with the ensemble L'école d'Orphée , which he founded in the same year . His CD recording of Biber's Rosary Sonatas received the German Record Critics' Prize.
In 1970 he became concertmaster of the London Classical Players and the Taverner Players , today he plays with many important baroque orchestras around the world and is in demand as a musicologist and lecturer. In addition to numerous guest professorships, in 1999 he was given a teaching position at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . In 2014 Holloway switched to the Trossingen University of Music as a guest lecturer .
Between 2003 and 2005, Holloway was the musical director of the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra . In 2005 he founded the Mannheim court orchestra with the Belgian conductor and harpsichordist Florian Heyerick and a music agent , which was heard for the first time in 300 years in its original line-up of 40 musicians in the summer of 2007. From 2006 to 2012 Holloway was artistic director of the international violin competition and master class in Dresden .
