Lasiocereus is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek adjective "λάσιος" (lasios) for shaggy and means shaggy Cereus .

description

The species of the genus Lasiocereus grow bushy to tree-like and reach heights of up to 1 meter. The thorny shoots are circular in cross-section and have numerous thin, warty ribs on which numerous areoles can be found. The upright central spines are sub- like to needle-like, the numerous upright radial spines are needle-like.

The white, tubular flowers emerge at the tip of the shoot from enlarged areoles that create a cephalium-like appearance. They open at night. Your flower cup and the flower tube are covered with thick wool and bristles.

The barrel-shaped to spherical fruits tear open at the base and are dry inside. They contain small, warty seeds .

Systematics and distribution

The species of the genus Lasiocereus are common in Peru .

The first description of the species and its two species took place in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . The type species of the genus is Lasiocereus rupicola . The genus includes the two species:
