Lasiocereus rupicola is a species of plant in the genus Lasiocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rupicola is derived from the Latin words rupes for 'rocks' or 'cliff' and -cola for 'inhabiting' and refers to the occurrence of the species between rocks.

Lasiocereus rupicola grows tree-shaped with widely spread dark green shoots and reaches heights of 3 to 4 meters. The shoots have a diameter of 4.5 to 7 centimeters. The 18 to 21 ribs are 5 to 7 millimeters high, up to 7 millimeters wide and clearly divided into cusps . The areoles are covered with whitish wool. Areoles capable of flowering are large, circular and have orange to golden brown wool. The initially light yellow thorns turn gray later. The approximately 6 central spines, one or two of which are stronger, are 1 to 3 centimeters long. The approximately 20 needle-like, protruding radial spines have lengths between 5 and 10 millimeters.

The flowers are up to 5 inches long. The spherical fruits have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lasiocereus rupicola is common in northern Peru in the Cajamarca region near San Marcos at altitudes of 2000 to 2600 meters.

It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
