Lasse Rempe-Gillen , until 2012 Lasse Rempe , (born January 20, 1978 in Kiel ) is a German mathematician who deals with complex dynamics ( Mandelbrot set , Julia set, etc.) and complexity theory. He is a professor at the University of Liverpool .

From 1996 Rempe studied mathematics at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel , where he received his doctorate summa cum laude under Walter Bergweiler in 2003 (his dissertation Dynamics of Exponential Maps received the faculty award). He also studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1999/2000 and at the University of Paris-South (DEA in computer science) in 2001/02 . He was a post-doctoral student at the University of Warwick . From 2006 he was a lecturer , from 2009 reader and from 2012 professor at the University of Liverpool.

He dealt with the complex dynamics (iteration) of entire functions such as the exponential mapping and their escaping sets (escaping sets, with partial results for the conjecture of Alexandre Eremenko ). Rempe-Gillen is also known for popularizing mathematics, for example in television programs on the BBC.

In 2010 he received the Whitehead Prize and in 2012 the Philip Leverhulme Prize. In 2017 he became a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
