General

The building northeast of the St. Lamberti Church , with the address Kirchplan 1, is the former Latin school and today's district adult education center in Querfurt.

history

The current building was erected in 1719 after the previous one was destroyed in the town fire of 1678, while the previous building was damaged in the fire of 1655. The reconstruction was financed by donations. Parts of the previous building are said to have been used again in the new building. The Latin school is said to have originated from a union of the choir school and the city school and was probably co-financed by the castle. Evidence for this can be found above all after the castle monastery was dissolved in the 16th century. The Latin school existed until the beginning of the 19th century. The town clerk was also the headmaster for a long time. The primary school was located in the building until 1886 and then the secondary school. From October 1, 1946, the district vocational school was housed here. The building was renovated in 1992 and has since been home to the adult education center .

Information board

There is an information board on the building that reports on the history of the building.

In the chronicles of our city,
as early as the 11th century, a
Latin school where eleven monks
taught was reported on the church map
.
With the development of the school system
, in the transition from feudalism
to capitalism, a community school was
established.
The great fire in Querfurt in 1678 destroyed
the school right down to the outer
walls. Thanks to donations, it was able to be
returned as a school in 1719
.
It was an elementary school until 1889 and in the
same year it became a private
Reform Realgymnasium.
The
district vocational school has been in this building since October 1, 1946 .
In 1992 the district, together with
many companies from Querfurt, reconstructed the
historic
building, which is under monument protection, into a modern educational facility
for the district's professional
youth.
