Latourell Falls in Guy W. Talbot State Park

The Latourell Falls is a waterfall of Latourell Creek in Multnomah County in the US state of Oregon . Located in Guy W. Talbot State Park on the Historic Columbia River Highway , the fall is the first fall visitors to the Columbia River Gorge will come across from the west. The waterfall has a height of 75 m and falls in free fall over a moss-covered cliff made of columnar basalt. The case was named after Joseph Latourell , a 19th century pioneer named as a postmaster at the Rooster Rock Post Office in 1887 . In 1929, the land surrounding the waterfall was donated to the state, which then established the state park .

The Latourell Creek rises on Larch Mountain , flows through the George W. Joseph State Natural Area with the 37 m high Upper Latourell Falls , flows through the adjacent Guy W. Talbot State Park to the north, flows together with the Young's coming from Shepperd's Dell State Park Creek and flows into the Columbia River in Rooster Rock State Park .
