The Schluttergasse even Latschenfilz called, is a bog in the Bavarian Forest National Park and is part of the municipality of Lindberg in the district of Regen in the border with the Czech Republic .

The approximately twenty hectare area is located about four kilometers east of Buchenau in the flat hollow of a large leveling area on the other side of the European main watershed , but still on German territory at an altitude of 1120 to 1170 meters; to the south-east on the Czech side is the much larger Weitfällerfilz . Annual precipitation is very high at 1,400 millimeters, sometimes 1,800 millimeters per year, while the mean annual temperature is low at around 4 to 5 degrees.

The moor was formed after the last ice age, when the spring water could not sink into the compacted ice age bedrock on crystalline granite and with the predominance of waterlogging by nutrient-poor rainwater gradually peat formation began. Several bog eyes developed over bog sinkholes , of which the Latschensee is the largest. There are two other smaller lakes to the northeast and northwest of the Latschensee. In the vicinity of the Latschensee there is still a large, silted up moor lake.

The vegetation of the moor is the dwarf pine (Legföhre), a prostrate form of the mountain pine embossed, which can grow from low-lying ground about four feet high. The Norway spruce , which dominates the surrounding spruce bog forests, is also represented in individual specimens . The understory form blueberry , cranberry and bilberry as well as vacancies Schei Diges cotton grass .

Underneath is a thick carpet of numerous mosses on a mighty bed of peat . There is no mountain pine vegetation in particularly wet and mineral-poor areas, but when it becomes more dry, the spruce prevails.

Heat thunderstorms often arise over the moorland on calm summer days. In spring and autumn, high pressure in the east and a light easterly wind form a cloud of clouds with mist and drizzle. The area is very foggy at this time, which significantly reduces the duration of sunshine and growth time.
