The Latschur group belongs to the Gailtal Alps in Carinthia , which are part of the Southern Limestone Alps . Geologically, in contrast to the rest of the Gailtal Alps, the Latschur group is a primary rock massif.
The Latschur group stretches from the Weißensee to the Drau near Sachsenburg . The highest peak is the Latschur at 2236 m , another striking elevation is the Goldeck at 2142 m .
In the densely wooded, partly inaccessible area, rare animal species are observed again and again. Brown bears have been sighted several times in the past few decades . Also Griffon vultures were seen several times.
A variant of the Gailtaler Höhenweg runs through the Latschur group .
