Southern Limestone Alps
The Southern Limestone Alps are that part of the Limestone Alps that is in front of the main Alpine ridge in the Eastern Alps . They form a series of mountain ranges that together are around 450 kilometers long and lie on Austrian , Slovenian and Italian territory.
Geologically, they largely belong to the so-called Southern Alps (Alps south of the periadriatic seam ), but also include the Drauzug and the northern Karawanken (including Obir , Petzen ) according to their geographical definition . Both of the last-named mountain ranges lie north of the periadriatic seam, so geologically belong to the Eastern Alps and, strictly speaking, should be included in the Northern Limestone Alps , from which they are separated by the entire width of the Central Alps .
