International geography festival
The Festival international de geographie (FIG) is an annual event that focuses on a geographical theme that changes with each event . It takes place in autumn, usually in early October, the French Saint-Die-des-Vosges instead. It was there in 1507 that the Waldseemüller map was created, on which the name “America” appears for the first time. The program consists on the one hand of panel discussions and specialist lectures by geographers, on the other hand of films, exhibitions, etc. Ä. So that in addition to the professional world, the general public should also be addressed.
The festival was first held in 1990 at the instigation of Christian Pierret , Mayor of Saint-Dié and later State Secretary. Over the four days of the event, around 45,000 visitors annually.
