Laurel Massé

Laurel Massé (born December 29, 1951 in Holland , Michigan ) is an American jazz and cabaret singer who was a founding member of Manhattan Transfer in 1972 .

Act

Massé toured with Manhattan Transfer for seven years and recorded four albums with the group, including the debut album The Manhattan Transfer . In 1978 she was thrown off the rails in a near fatal car accident, after which she had to sit out for two years. In the Manhattan Transfer group, she was replaced by Cheryl Bentyne . In 1984 she returned with the album Alone Together (Pausa PR), which was followed by Easy Living (Pausa PR) in 1987 , Again (Disques Beaupre) in 1990 , Feather and Bone (Premonition) in 2001 and Ballads (Voice of the Swan) in 2002 . She works as a studio singer and vocal coach.

In 2009 she recorded That Ol'Mercer Magic with songs by Johnny Mercer with the trio Jalala, consisting of her, Janis Siegel from Manhattan Transfer and Lauren Kinhan from New York Voices .

She also had The Laurel Massé Jazz Show on WAMC Northeast Public Radio for two years .

In 2004 she and the four then Manhattan Transfer members received the MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Lifetime Achievement Award.
